Far too often students pick majors without knowing very much about the actual field of study. Their high school classes usually provides little insight into popular areas such as psychology, business, or even journalism and even less in areas such as engineering, film, and energy sciences. College Majors 101 aims to bridge that gap.
College Majors 101 is an education resource dedicated to one purpose and one purpose only. To teach students about different college majors in depth so that they can make more informed college and career choices. It provides students a place where they can openly research the greater world around each college major in order to better understand each major as a whole universe, rather than random, unconnected objects in the landscape.
Through its partnerships with universities, professional associations, future employers and business media in each major, CM 101 helps students better understand the greater world around each career as told by the people who are in that industry currently at all levels. Students all too often will look for colleges programs having no idea what the actual industry is like. Students who use CM 101 can make more mature and informed decisions about their future. They can go into the right programs, at the right schools, for the right reasons.
CM 101 growing library contains detailed information on majors ranging from Agriculture and Food Sciences to Sports Management. It categorizes majors within four groups: Life Science and Medical, Art/Design and Performance, Liberal Arts, and Engineering Technology. When you select a major, you are given a summary of that program along with some of the personal characteristics that allow for success in that field. You are then given the option to learn more about that major through an in-depth essay, review links to industry publications, learn about relevant student associations and student competitions, and even view a list complete with links to some of the prominent employers within the field. In addition, CM 101 has a vast collection of featured videos that relate to each of the majors and programs.
This is also a useful tool for guidance counselors to direct students, have them peruse the site, and come back with 2-3 college majors that REALLY interest them. Then the guidance counselor can maximize their time with each student and do what they do best.
